Doris | The Cut-Out Cat Classic from the Creator of Crystal Tipps

Published 2 Aug 2026 View on YouTube ↗
A black and white cat who communicates in electronic meows, a ginger tom in Converse, and adventures that involve the moon, giant spoons, and snowmen... sound familiar? 🐱🎵 First airing on Children's ITV in 1983, the show ran for 40 episodes across two series – the first in 1983 and the second in 1985 – each lasting just 5 minutes. Produced by Yorkshire Television (with Hayton Associates on the second series), the show aired daily in the 4.20pm slot. At its heart was Doris – a spirited black-and-white cat who, like any real cat, can't speak human language. Instead, she communicates through electronic meows, purrs and trills, brought to life by keyboardist Dave Lawson. She's joined by her ginger tom boyfriend Marlon (who wears Converse trainers!), Leo, and a host of other feline friends.
