Fluppy Dogs | The Forgotten 1986 Pilot That Could've Been Disney's Next Big Thing 🐾

Five pastel-coloured talking dogs, a crystal key that opens interdimensional doorways, and a Thanksgiving special that never got the series it deserved... sound familiar? 🐕🌈
Produced by Walt Disney Television Animation, with animation by TMS Entertainment (who were also working on Adventures of the Gummi Bears at the time), the special followed a band of adventurous Fluppies – Stanley (the blue leader), Tippi (the pink loving one), Dink (the red playful one), Ozzie (the green cool one), and Bink (the yellow shy one) – who escape their perilous homeworld through a magical portal and end up on Earth.
They meet Jamie Bingham, a ten-year-old boy, and his teenage neighbour Claire, who help them evade J.J. Wagstaff, a ruthless businessman determined to add the Fluppies to his exotic animal collection. Along the way, there's a flying bed, a rambunctious creature called a Falumpus, and a chaotic climax involving a library and a portal home.
The voice cast included Marshall Efron, Susan Blu, Lorenzo Music, Hal Smith, Michael Rye, and more.
Sadly, the special suffered low ratings – scoring a Nielsen rating of 5.3/10 and placing 70th among network programming that week – and the series was cancelled.
It was never revived.
But the Fluppy Dogs did make a cameo appearance in the 2017 DuckTales episode "Let's Get Dangerous!" – a lovely nod to this forgotten piece of Disney history.
