GhostWatch | Michael Parkinson, Sarah Greene & The BBC's Most Controversial Halloween Special

Published 7 Sep 2026 View on YouTube ↗
A live BBC investigation into a haunted house. What could possibly go wrong? 👻📺 This time, we're looking at GhostWatch – the 1992 BBC mockumentary that blurred the lines between fiction and reality. Airing on Halloween night 1992 at 9:25pm on BBC One, this 90-minute drama followed Michael Parkinson, Sarah Greene, Mike Smith and Craig Charles as they investigated a Northolt home terrorised by a poltergeist named "Pipes". Presented as a live broadcast, it used shaky cameras, real BBC personalities and a working phone number – convincing millions it was real. The backlash was immediate. The BBC was flooded with calls and the show was banned from ever being repeated. It remains one of the most controversial programmes the BBC has ever made – and it's never been shown on British television again.
