Pob’s Programme | Anne Wood’s surreal Pre-Teletubbies Classic 📺

A puppet who breathes on the camera, writes his name in the mist, and lives inside your television... sound familiar? 📺💨 First airing on Channel 4 on 5th October 1985, this wonderfully weird magazine show ran for a mammoth 82 episodes across two series, with the final episode airing in 1990. It was presented by Pob (played by puppeteer Robin Stevens), a puppet who supposedly lived inside the viewer's TV set. The show is perhaps most (in)famous for its opening: Pob would breathe heavily on the camera lens, creating a thick condensation before tracing his name in the mist – though many viewers (and their parents!) mistook this for spitting![reference:10] Each week, a celebrity guest would follow a trail of pink and yellow wool around a garden, eventually finding Pob's unravelled stripy jumper and waking him up.
