The Pondles | The 80s British Answer to The Smurfs You May Have Forgotten

Tiny green creatures with acorn caps, living in a village called Puddletown behind a thick hedge... sound familiar? 🌿🍂 First airing on CITV from 16th September to 16th December 1987, the show ran for one series of 13 episodes, each 11 minutes long. Narrated by Robin Bailey, with voices from Christopher Sandford and Jill Shilling, and directed by Terry Ward, it followed the adventures of Pip (always ready for adventure), his clever little sister Daisy, and their Grandad, whose remarkable old shed was full of everything anyone could possibly need. The show was later repeated on Nickelodeon UK in 1994 and has been described as a British version of The Smurfs – though it only ever got one series.
